Costa De Almeria Travel guide
The Spanish province
of Almeria offers a vast expanse of coastland with long beaches, secluded
coves, and Moorish villages of whitewashed houses and winding streets.
This is one of the most prosperous provinces in Spain, as well as one of
the most popular with tourists offering more than 3,000 hours of sunshine
annually. The landscape of the region is varied, ranging from the green
mountains of Las Alpujarras, the dry riverbeds of the valleys and the
nature reserve at Cabo de Gata to the arid, ochre coloured dunes of the
Tabernas Desert. Choose from the following resorts in the Costa
Almeria:
Mojacar This pretty Moorish town on the
hill has a cluster of narrow, winding streets. Don't miss the Arab gate to
the town, the church, and gift shops, which specialise in jewellery,
ceramics and locally woven rugs. Watch out for the festivals here and the
gypsy fair in Turre. Mojacar has an attractive 5km long beach and water
sports, and offers a good choice of restaurants and bars.
Roquetas de
Mar
The name Roquetas de
Mar translates as little rocks on sea, The resort has three main areas:
the village (pueblo), the port, and the urbanizacion where the holiday
apartments, hotels and tourist facilities are concentrated. The resort has
a long (approx 3km), clean shingle beach which is great for swimming and
patrolled by life guards during peak season. Numerous inexpensive bars and
restaurants line the promenade.
