We had a flight to Rhodes and then went island hopping from Rhodes to Kos too Patmas to Samos from Samos we flew back to Rhodes for 1 night and then our flight home the following day. It was a fabulous holiday and you do not get bored.

Agistri – Greece

Agistri is a wonderful surprise after having travelled to so many Greek islands and love the friendliness of everyone but either was disappointed by the behaviour of other tourists or in the facilities available to visitors.

Prices on the island are fair and although small it has a wide range of trips etc. if you get bored sitting on the beach.

Agistri is only an hour from Athens by boat and has a choice of beaches to suit families with very young children to the more adventurous. There is even a very discreet nudist beach.

There is a wonderful choice of tavernas, restaurants and bars on the island all with a wide range of local and traditional dishes but also with choices for those with less adventurous taste in food.

It is fantastic place to use as a base to island hop too.  You can reach Aegina, Poros and Hydra on a day trip – Athens too.

The people are very friendly and even for a lone traveller this is safe and welcoming place to be.  I noted that the island has many return visitors who are not at all cliquey and delighted to welcome new people into the fold.



Altogether, a fantastic place – currently you can only get there independently – it is crime that a decent, specialist agent does not represent it.

Some of my friends have been to visit the island since my visit last year and cannot believe their luck in being told about this little gem of a place.

Alonissos – Greece

Just returned from our first visit to Alonissos. We arrived on the island after waiting for 6 hours in Skiathos for the ferry. The wait was well worth it. This is the seventh island we have visited and our 13th visit to Greece. The island is not for people wanting wild nightlife, but for those wishing to relax and unwind.

There were enough tavernas and bars to choose from, and they were all reasonably cheap and the food very good. The extremely friendly people even put up with our attempts at speaking Greek.

We have already decided that we will be returning to Alonissos.

The old town is well worth a visit, I would recommend taking either the bus or taxi up and then walk back down the old donkey track. The views are unbelievable. I would also recommend a day out with Captain Pakkis on the boat Gorgonna what a character he is.

Island of Andros – Greece

Resort Rating: Very Good

The owners are nice people.

We went in September when it was very quiet.

The resort has a short season, June to 1st week in September, places were closing up whilst we were there.

The island is more popular with mainland Greeks than foreigners

Batsi has a great beach, not much to do here but perfect for a laze in the sun with a good book and to choose from a good selection of Tavernas.

Bus service runs for the ferry connections not tourists but you can get about with planning.

Agios Ioannis, Pelion

Booked as a late deal – the journey here is arduous – especially with 2+ hour’s flight delays in both directions, although the transfer was great in our own private taxi – stunning journey over the mountains.

The trek is well worth it though – the east coast of the Pelion is beautiful, and in mid-June was very quiet. Captain George hotel is situated down a side alley just off the front and is simple but spotlessly clean. If you do not stay in this hotel you will still come across him – he spends his day riding up and down the front on his little moped.

Breakfasts are tremendous – always a variant of eggs (inc. bacon and eggs) every day, plus any permutation of cornflakes, yoghurt & honey, croissants, cold meats & cheese, breads jams and good coffee. People were coming in from other hotels just for the breakfast. Good range of restaurants but the best is the one nearest to the main car-park at southern end of main beach. They still take you into the kitchen to view what is cooked today, and it is very tasty and cheap – 18 euros for two mains, one salad 1/2 litre house white and fresh fruit to finish. Plaka beach (to the north) is beautiful and quiet – no vehicular access – and has lots of shade from the forest, which comes right down to the beach if you need it.

If you do not hire a car you are restricted to the beach or some strenuous walking – the only way out is up! There are buses but not at very useful times. Most organised excursions meant getting over to the other side of peninsula a good hours drive away therefore having to get up very early (we didn’t bother).

A great week in a beautiful spot, and cannot wait to go back.
